Why did Nasa Buy Alloyfold Chairs?

11 December 2007

In September 2007 NASA rang and ordered the ALLOYFOLD 4 chair to take to Antarctica for use by scientists with NASA's BESS-Polar Balloon experiment.

Ironically, the chairs were sent by us from Fort Smith AR to Palestine TX from where they were flown by NASA to Christchurch New Zealand (a mile from our office) for their flight to Antarctica. Why did NASA buy ALLOYFOLD ? Aluminum frame for minimum carrying weight, no rusting, strength, comfortable flex and zero maintenance in sub zero temperatures? "Actually, none of that" said Thomas Hams. "It's too dry in the area for anything to rust. We bought your chair because we needed one that contained no steel and would therefore not interfere with the large super conducting magnet that we had to transport in our search for antimatter in the cosmic radiation." OK, so having used the Alloyfold for months in the extremes of Antarctica what do you think? "Not much." "Oh?" "We never used them. The weather was so bad in Antarctica when we left Christchurch that all sorts of cargo got offloaded...your chairs were left on the runway." So NASA has nothing to say about the Alloyfold 4? "Well", laughs Thomas, "I can say that you were good to deal with and we got the chairs on time and as ordered. One day we might actually sit on the chairs and be able to attest to their durability and lightness like all the good folks on your website."
